Since his arrival in Rome in 2023 as Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, Cardinal Prevost and Pope Francis used to meet for two hours every Saturday morning in the Casa Santa Marta, Francis’ biographer Austen Ivereigh wrote on the anti-Catholic CommonWealMagazine.org:

"Francis came to rely on him more and more."

Cardinal Arthur Roche, the Prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship, an archenemy of the Roman Rite, told Ivereigh that Cardinal Prevost was "without doubt Francis' closest collaborator in the Vatican during the past two years".

Ivereigh comments on Leo XIV: "He has made clear that he will continue to build the synodal Church of which Francis dreamed."
