Leo XIV gives women real participation in Papal authority.

Women continue to be appointed as heads of dicasteries or important sections within them, and these roles are by no means merely consultative, Cardinal Víctor “Tucho” Fernández told Religión Digital on October 26.

“It is real participation in the exercise of the Pope's authority,” he said.

His example was the prefect of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life: “Today, a woman presides over that dicastery, and she has the ability to make decisions that seriously affect the lives of many communities.”

Implied Comparison Between Slavery and Homosexuality?

When asked about the statement in his new document that “no human or religious law or authority can ever declare anyone unworthy” of God's love or the love of others, and what pastoral consequences this should have for homosexuals, adulterers or apostates, Fernández replied:

“It took us 19 centuries to show that slavery is contrary to human dignity. It is pointless to go around in circles, deceiving ourselves and maintaining that the official Church was always opposed to slavery. It takes considerable mental contortions to deny reality.”
